# Google Search API guide

## Start with Google Search

Choose web, news, image or map search for the type of result you need. A search snippet is a discovery record; retrieve its source page when the full text matters.

These requests use your API key and can spend credits. Check the current price on the endpoint page; each new page is a separate request. Later examples use illustrative identifiers: replace them with values from your earlier response.

### 1. Find web pages

Save result URLs and rankings with the query and location. [Parameters and current cost →](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/search)

**google_search/search**

```
curl "https://www.monocrawl.com/v1/google_search/search?query=developer%20tools&location=London%2CEngland%2CUnited%20Kingdom&language=en&limit=10" \
  -H "x-api-key: mn_your_key_here"
```

### 2. Compare news coverage

This is a separate news search, not a continuation of the web results. [Parameters and current cost →](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/news)

**google_search/news**

```
curl "https://www.monocrawl.com/v1/google_search/news?query=developer%20tools&location=United%20Kingdom&language=en&limit=10" \
  -H "x-api-key: mn_your_key_here"
```

### 3. Find relevant places

This is a location-oriented search. Searches of up to 20 results use Google local search first in the UK and US (English), or Germany (German), with an alternative Maps source if the first source fails or returns incomplete data. Other countries, languages and larger searches use the Maps source directly. Local results retain place IDs, addresses, ratings and coordinates, but ranking may differ and hotel ratings/price levels are null; the response includes a note. Allow at least 75 seconds for standalone calls: local search gets up to 15 seconds, followed by up to 50 seconds for recovery within the shared deadline. Earlier batch deadlines still apply. A successful request costs four credits once; a failed request is refunded. Use the Places platform for a known place ID’s detail or reviews. [Parameters and current cost →](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/maps)

**google_search/maps**

```
curl "https://www.monocrawl.com/v1/google_search/maps?query=software%20companies%20in%20London&location=London%2CEngland%2CUnited%20Kingdom&language=en&limit=10" \
  -H "x-api-key: mn_your_key_here"
```

## Choose filters with the source behavior in mind

| Control | Behavior and limits |
| --- | --- |
| Regional meaning | location and language influence search context. They do not establish where a page author lives. The documented default search location is the United Kingdom. [Endpoint reference →](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/search) |
| Ranking | device applies to web search; do not assume the news or maps route supports it. Retain query and ranking context with saved results. [Endpoint reference →](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/search) |
| Depth and follow-up | These operations expose limit rather than a public cursor. Do not invent a page or date-range parameter. Fetch the source page when a snippet is insufficient. [Endpoint reference →](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/news) |

Source availability, ordering and field coverage can change. Inspect warnings and partial-result metadata alongside the rows. See [runnable workflows](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/workflows), [metric semantics](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/metric-semantics), [computed fields](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/computed-fields) and the [pagination matrix](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/pagination).

## Match the operation to your task

| Your task | Endpoint | When to use it |
| --- | --- | --- |
| General web discovery | [`search`](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/search) | Supports desktop/mobile ranking context. |
| Recent news discovery | [`news`](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/news) | News results are a different corpus, not guaranteed exhaustive coverage. |
| Image discovery | [`images`](https://www.monocrawl.com/docs/endpoints/google_search/images) | Image results do not grant rights to reuse source media. |

## Endpoint reference

## google_search/images

`GET /v1/google_search/images`

Image results for a query with the image and the page it appears on.

*Google image search*

| Parameter | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `query` | yes | Search terms — e.g. `aurora borealis` |
| `location` | no | Location name — e.g. `United Kingdom` |
| `language` | no | Language code — e.g. `en` |
| `limit` | no | Requested rows per response, 1–1000. The source may return fewer. Remaining rows from an already purchased page use a saved cursor and cost zero to retrieve for up to one hour; further native source pages use this endpoint’s normal price. — e.g. `5` |
| `cursor` | no | Use the returned cursor unchanged, retaining the original query, filters and limit. Saved mlo1. cursors retrieve already purchased rows at zero credits for up to one hour. A native source cursor, when supplied, starts a normally priced source page. Quote with dry_run before continuing. |
| `dry_run` | no | Read a zero-credit estimate without fetching sources, running AI, or reserving credits. Cache status is a snapshot, not a guarantee at execution. Accepted values: 1, 0, true, false. Case, spaces, hyphens and underscores are interchangeable. — e.g. `1` |

### Useful optional inputs

- `limit`: Bound the returned rows to what your task needs. A smaller limit does not necessarily reduce source calls or price; inspect the quote.
- `cursor`: Continue the same source traversal with the complete returned cursor. Saved-result retrieval and a new source page can have different prices; quote the next call.
- `dry_run`: Read a free estimate before fetching sources or scheduling paid work. Zero credits; cache status and availability are snapshots rather than guarantees.

**Cost:** 4 credits at list price per successful uncached response; variable-cost operations may quote or settle a different charge. Confirmed uncharged or refunded failures report zero. Pending reconciliation can report credits_used:null; retain request_id and the original idempotency key.

```bash
curl "https://www.monocrawl.com/v1/google_search/images?query=aurora%20borealis" \
  -H "x-api-key: mn_your_key_here"
```

*Google Maps search*

| Parameter | Required | Description |
| --- | --- | --- |
| `query` | yes | Search terms — e.g. `coffee near Shoreditch` |
| `location` | no | Supported location name, for example London,England,United Kingdom. A short city name may be ambiguous; use the location guidance when the source rejects it. — e.g. `London,England,United Kingdom` |
| `language` | no | Language code — e.g. `en` |
| `limit` | no | Results, up to 100 — e.g. `20` |
| `dry_run` | no | Read a zero-credit estimate without fetching sources, running AI, or reserving credits. Cache status is a snapshot, not a guarantee at execution. Accepted values: 1, 0, true, false. Case, spaces, hyphens and underscores are interchangeable. — e.g. `1` |
