The rules

The rules
that come with it.

Meta’s Platform Terms apply to every Instagram API. These are the clauses buyers ask about.

  • No selling the data

Clause 3.a.iv bans selling, licensing or buying Platform Data, and clause 12.l counts anonymised, aggregated and derived data as Platform Data too.

    Meta Platform Terms
  • Mostly your own data

Meta’s overview says a permission only reaches data created by the app user. Reading other accounts is limited to Business Discovery, hashtags and mentions.

    Meta: Instagram Platform overview
  • App Review to go wider

Serving accounts you don’t own needs Advanced Access: App Review, with a screencast for each permission, and Business Verification.

    Meta: App Review for Instagram
  • Delete on request

You must update or delete Platform Data promptly when asked, and once you no longer need it for the permitted purpose.

    Meta Platform Terms
  • Hashtags are rationed

An account can query 30 unique hashtags in any 7 days, recent results cover 24 hours, and the poster’s username can’t be requested.

    Meta: Hashtag Search
  • Embeds are for display

oEmbed needs no token since May 2026, but using its metadata for analytics is not allowed.
