2.1sMedian response in our benchmark. 22 September 2026 catalogue benchmark. Median of recorded endpoint timings across 636 operations with a successful HTTP response. Includes network time; individual requests vary.
Google’s Merchant API manages products in your own Merchant Center account and reports on them, including market insights such as best-selling products and a benchmark price for products you sell. Google lists no API for searching Google Shopping results: its Custom Search JSON API returns web and image results from a Programmable Search Engine, and is closed to new customers. For public Google Shopping results, data APIs work with an API key.
What happened to the Content API for Shopping?
Google sunset it on 18 August 2026, and from 1 September 2026 its requests experience progressive errors. Its replacement is the Merchant API, which Google describes as a redesign of the Content API for Shopping. Google offers an extension request form for merchants who need more time to migrate.
Is there a free Google Shopping API?
Google publishes no price for its Merchant API, but it only reads Merchant Center accounts you can access. For public Google Shopping data, Monocrawl gives 1,000 credits every month, Bright Data 5,000 records a month, HasData and Scrape.do 1,000 credits a month and Apify $5 of usage a month. ScrapingBee starts you with 1,000 free credits, and SearchApi and ShoppingScraper with 100. Oxylabs has a free trial of up to 1,000 Google results, and ScraperAPI a 7-day trial with 5,000 credits and a free plan of 1,000 credits.
Can I get Google Shopping price history through an API?
Yes, with two of the options here. Monocrawl’s price-history call returns each store’s price history for a Google Shopping product alongside its current price, ten stores a page. SearchApi’s Google Product Page API returns typical prices with a price history for each merchant. Google’s Merchant API gives merchants sale price suggestions and a benchmark price for products they sell.
Do I need a Merchant Center account or Google Cloud project to get Google Shopping data?
Not with Monocrawl: you send your Monocrawl API key with a search term, a product ID or a store domain and get public Google Shopping data back, with no Google account, Merchant Center account or Google Cloud project. Google’s Merchant API needs a Merchant Center account, a Google Cloud project linked to it through developer registration, and OAuth or service account credentials.
Which Google Shopping APIs work with AI agents?
Monocrawl, Apify, Bright Data, HasData, ScraperAPI, ScrapingBee, SearchApi and ShoppingScraper publish their own MCP servers that reach Google Shopping, so assistants such as Claude or Cursor can call them directly. Oxylabs’ MCP server has no Google Shopping tool. Google’s Merchant API MCP Access Service, in alpha, reads your own Merchant Center data and reports.
Method
How we compared.
What’s includedGoogle’s Merchant API, plus widely used Google Shopping data and scraping APIs that come up across Google Shopping API searches and comparison lists, return Google Shopping results as structured data and publish their pricing or offer a trial.
What we comparedWhat each vendor publishes about its Google Shopping data, pricing, free allowance and access, read on its own pages. “Best” here means worth comparing, not a ranking from tests: we have not run their APIs.
